From PE stay on the N2 heading east, follow signs to Grahamstown and East London. Pass through Colchester to the N2/N10/R72 crossing.
STOPS As you pass through Colchester you will see a Spar and petrol station on your right hand side [RHS]. It is useful to stop here for items like bread and milk, perhaps braai meat or pasta for dinner and definitely a bottle of wine for yourr first night in Cannon Rocks. At the N2/N10/R72 crossing you will see the brand new Ncanara Farm stall on the LHS. Do yourself a favour and stop. The Ncanara is [world] famous for its pies, but it also sells wonderful breads, preserves, biltong and all manner of scrumptious fattening snacks. |
From here you have two options:
R72 via Alexandria - Turn Right onto the R72 at the N2/N10/R72 crossing. About 50km to Alexandria, drive through/don’t stop. Around 20km further you’ll see a sign on yourr RHS for Boknes & Cannon Rocks. Turn right here.
+/- Halfway between Alexandria and Cannon Rocks turn-off there is a entrance with pink flags on the LHS. Its called ‘ye olde country shoppe’ or ‘hunters lodge’ depending on the owners whim I think. They sell marvellous craft and some seriously good art. They also run a hairdressing salon and a coffee shoppe. Totally worthwhile. |
Cross over a four way stop that says Boknes to the left and Cannon Rocks to the Right. [completely ignore the sign saying Cannon Rocks to yr RHS – this sign is just to confuse the ignorant] At the next stop street you are entering Cannon Rocks and will see the Cannon Rocks welcoming sign right in front of you. Cross over this four way stop into Cannon Rocks and into Potgieter Street [yes, this is our street! The house is almost at the end]. It becomes a good dirt road, but nevertheless – please drive slowly and carefully. Almost at the end of the Potgieter you will see number 19 on yr LHS. If you miss the house and get to the farm gate with a field on the other side, make a u-turn and go back a block.
N2 via Salem - Carry on with the N2 towards Grahamstown. Turn Right onto the R343 towards Kenton on Sea.
At this point there is a farm stall called Salem, on the N2 on the LHS. I believe it is quite good. |
Drive very carefully on this road, its extremely scenic but often misty. We have seen cattle on this road. Go through the village of Salem, next stop street is where you cross the R72. The entrance to Kenton-on-Sea is across the road. Turn right towards Bushmans/Boknes/Cannon Rocks. Cross over the bridge, past the orange shopping centre on the RHS and Bushmans entrance on LHS. Look out for a sign to Boknes/Cannon Rocks on LHS. Turn Left into this road. Cross over a four way stop that says Boknes to the left and Cannon Rocks to the Right [completely ignore the sign saying Cannon Rocks to yr RHS – this sign is just to confuse the ignorant]. At the next stop street you are entering Cannon Rocks and will see the Cannon Rocks welcoming sign right in front of you. Cross over this four way stop into Cannon Rocks and into Potgieter Street [yes, this is our street! The house is almost at the end].
